Liar liar pants on fire

So you’ve probably seen the No on 8 TV ads by now which state that there is nothing in the law that requires children to be taught about marriage in school. Technically, this is a true statement. What they aren’t telling voters, though, is that schools do teach about marriage. Here’s the facts from the California Board of Education website:

(This comes from an article here: ) Most interestingly, BOE President Mitchell seems unaware of guidelines on his own Web site, which state that 96 percent of school districts accept the technically voluntary sex education curriculum. Further, the California Department of Education (CDE) Web site notes specifically that in the 96 percent of school districts that do accept the curriculum, they are REQUIRED to include instruction and materials that “teach respect for marriage.”

So 96% of California schools teach sex ed. The schools that teach the established curriculum about sex ed are required to teach about marriage. So, in essence, at least 96% of California schools will be required to teach about homosexual marriage if Proposition 8 fails. I think that qualifies as lying by omission for sure.

I found this interesting as well. It comes from the California curriculum guide about health education: The approach of this framework is to encourage districts to work with parents and community members in developing curriculum, especially in the area of family living. The intent of the curriculum in this content area is not to invade the privacy of families and their right to teach values to their children but to assist families in teaching about family living and encourage effective family communication.

So California’s guide concerning health and sex ed says that they should respect family values. Yet I still worry about what is going to be taught in schools if Prop 8 fails. Conservative parents will be upset if homosexuality is taught as prevalently as it is in Massachussets schools; gay parents will protest if their lifestyle isn’t taught, if Prop 8 fails. And which side do you think the (cough – LIBERAL) judges and CTA will choose?

  1. I have added your post to Jeremiah Films’ BlogWatch Same Sex Marriage

I am also thinking that the schools get funds [money] for having sex education courses, When I was in school I believe I had to take the course to be able to take the course for drivers education.

All things considered, The ad is pure deception.

  2. It’s true that schools are technically not required to teach about marriage, but the reality as you said is that most do. And if what has happened in Massachusetts schools is any indication of what will happen in CA if Prop 8 fails, the future is not looking good. Schools are already starting to teach acceptance of homosexuality in CA, so how can any reasonable person deny that there is a connection between legalized gay marriage and education?

  5. Good post, Keep blogging. We are sprinting towards Nov 4. Vote yes on Prop 8!

The Skinny on Schools and Prop 8.

1 – Public schools in California are not required to teach anything about marriage.

2 – 96 percent of California public schools teach a Health and Sex Ed Curriculum, which is my understanding is required under law (but I cannot find that online yet from the State, I am still looking).

3 – If a public school teaches Health and Sex Ed, they are required to teach the following :

“Instruction shall be appropriate for students of all genders, sexual orientations, and ethnic and cultural backgrounds…Instruction shall encourage communication between students and their families and shall teach respect for marriage and committed relationships.

4 – This means that schools that teach Heath and Sex Ed will now be required to teach that Gay Marriage is the same as Marriage between a Man and a Woman.

  6. The thing that bothers me about this whole issue is the effect it will inevitably have on our children. Our children are the things most precious to us. It’s completely terrifying that they would want this kind of confusion in the schools.

The more I look at it the clearer it becomes, gay rights activists have an agenda. They say that gayness is not a choice, that it’s genetically driven, so we shouldn’t deny them their lifestyle and we’re discriminating if we do. But the statistics show that children raised in a gay environment are much more likely to choose the gay lifestyle themselves.

While there may be some genetic component, the consensus is that it is most likely a combination of genetics and societal influence. For instance, one of our high schools is having a rash of homosexual type experimentation because it’s become the edge thing to do.

That has everything to do with environment and nothing to do with genetics. That a school would choose to immerse the future generations with this kind of crosstalk and confusion is unfathomable.

  9. The best argument we have is the one that matters most. Our kids. Did you hear about the kids in Hayward California? Their school held a “Gay” day and didn’t tell parents about it before hand. Kindergartners were taught about gay relationships as equal with marriage, and the parents had no opportunity to “opt out” like the opposition is telling us they will. It’s happening already! Protect our kids. Vote YES on Proposition 8

I printed these up and passed them around my neighborhood. Parents need to know!
